Far Out!
October
12, 2000 marks the third anniversary of the death of John Denver, singer,
songwriter, actor, and humanitarian. He was the president and co-founder
of the Windstar Foundation, which respectfully encourages people throughout
the world to recommit to taking responsible action in support of a peaceful,
healthy and sustainable future for all on Earth.
In his
memory, here's a letter from Cheryl Charles, Windstar Foundation Chairman
of the Board urging each person, every day, to do something for a child
and for the environment that supports us all.
Do something
for yourself, to nourish your own abilities to care for others with
grace and health. Do all that you do as a conscious choice. Do so with
kindness, compassion, love, and laughter, and you will be demonstrating
the kind of joy in life that John inspired in people throughout the
world. His intellect, heart and enthusiasm will continue to live through
time.
John Denver's
spirit will live in the children for whom hunger has ended through The
Hunger Project, in the trees planted through Plant-It 2000, in the lands
left protected through the Alaska Wild Lands Act and the Windstar Land
Conservancy, in the oceans brought to health with the help of The Cousteau
Society.
John's vision
and talent will live through the body of work he left here on Earth
in his lyrics and music. Humanity is enriched through his gifts. He
would welcome and encourage the many actions that individuals and groups
of people have taken in support of work to benefit children, the environment,
and peace in the world.
He would urge
us to continue, with heart and integrity, to make the world a better
place for generations to come. The Windstar Foundation encourages the
good works of people and organizations committed to similar and other
worthy purposes.
Through it all,
in John's words, we "celebrate living -- the laughter that sings
in the heart of a child, the freedom that flies to the call of the wild."
The life and legacy
of John Denver was one of my inspirations in creating this publication.
Enjoy the October issue.
Peace,
Darryl
